Foreign Minister at BRICS meeting: Egypt is pushing for a fairer world order.

Egypt calls for strengthening economic partnership and reforming international institutions.

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aati participated, Foreign Minister International cooperation and Egyptians abroad, on Thursday, May 14, at the meeting of the foreign ministers of the BRICS group of countries in New Delhi, within the framework of strengthening coordination between member states regarding regional and international issues of common interest.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdel-Aati expressed in his speech his aspiration to continue strengthening economic cooperation among the BRICS countries, supporting the role of the New Development Bank, and pushing towards the implementation of joint projects in the energy, manufacturing, infrastructure and advanced technology sectors.

He also discussed the initiatives put forward by Egypt within the BRICS framework, including the establishment of a logistics center for grains in East Port Said to enhance food security, which contributes to supporting industrial, commercial and investment cooperation among member states.

 

The official spokesperson added that Minister Abdel-Aati addressed, during his speech, a number of priority issues on the multilateral agenda, foremost among them the reform of the global economic system and the reform of the Security Council, where he reviewed the Egyptian position supporting the ”Ezulwini Consensus” and the ”Sirte Declaration” as the two frameworks expressing the unified African position, and the only way to address the historical injustice in the representation of the African continent within the Security Council.

The Foreign Minister also reviewed the complex challenges facing the international system and the global economy, noting that developing countries bear the brunt of these crises. In this context, he addressed developments in the Middle East, including the escalating tensions in the region that threaten regional and international stability and negatively impact international maritime security, supply chains, and energy and food prices.

 

He reviewed the efforts made by Egypt to contain the tension, reduce the escalation and prevent the expansion of the conflict, stressing Egypt’s full support for the security and stability of the brotherly Gulf Arab states, and rejecting any attacks that aim to undermine their sovereignty and stability, stressing that diplomatic solutions and peaceful settlements represent the only way to achieve security and stability.

 

Regarding the Palestinian issue, the Foreign Minister condemned Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian territories and stressed the need to ensure the unhindered access of humanitarian, relief and medical aid to the Gaza Strip, in order to alleviate human suffering, as well as to pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction, leading to a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue.
