The President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomêne Faye, began an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, as part of diplomatic moves aimed at strengthening economic and development partnerships, and supporting the implementation of Senegal’s Vision 2050, which aims to bring about a comprehensive transformation in infrastructure and achieve sustainable development.

The Senegalese president began his visit with a series of strategic talks with German officials and company representatives, including the managing director of GAUFF Engineering, where prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and infrastructure were discussed, with a focus on sustainable development projects that directly affect the lives of citizens.

Vision 2050 is driving Senegal to expand its partnerships with Germany in vital sectors.

The meeting focused specifically on plans to expand the rural electrification model based on solar energy to include new areas and villages in Senegal. This initiative aims to improve basic services in rural areas and enhance energy efficiency in supporting economic activities, particularly in the agricultural sector. The two sides also discussed the potential for employing these technologies to develop modern irrigation systems, improve land irrigation practices, and enhance crop processing within production areas. This aligns with the country's efforts to strengthen food sovereignty and reduce reliance on imports.

The dialogue also addressed the environmental challenges facing many Senegalese cities and regions, most notably the problem of seasonal flooding, which causes recurring damage to infrastructure and residents of affected neighborhoods. In this context, President Faye emphasized the importance of leveraging German expertise in implementing integrated projects to develop drainage networks and establish modern infrastructure for rainwater management, thereby mitigating the effects of flooding and improving the quality of life in both urban and rural areas.

During the meeting, the Senegalese President stressed that the success of these partnerships is measured by their direct impact on the lives of citizens, noting that his country’s development vision is not limited to major projects, but extends to building organized villages, developing a more productive agricultural environment, and providing safe and stable living conditions for families.

He considered cooperation with the German side to be a fundamental pillar in the path of developmental transformation that Senegal seeks, stressing that the next stage will witness greater strengthening of international partnerships that support infrastructure and accelerate the pace of development, thus ensuring a more stable and prosperous future for future generations.
