Who won the African title in the last African Nations Championship... Morocco or Senegal? The crisis surrounding the last African football title continues to cast a shadow over the corridors of the African Football Confederation (CAF) and its president, Patrice Motsepe.
Crisis in the Confederation of African Football
The crisis worsened after the African Union declared that the last title was awarded to the Moroccan national team, the host country, at the expense of Senegal, which had won the title on the field. The disputed title crisis between the Moroccan and Senegalese national teams caused a rift within the corridors of the Union.

In this context, the Spanish football newspaper AS said that football in Africa will not return to what it was, explaining that after the Court of Arbitration for Sport accepted Senegal's appeal, both countries are waiting for the final ruling that will declare the champion.
Motsepe is threatened with expulsion from the Confederation of African Football.
She revealed that this was followed by moves in the past few hours to bring about a change in the way African football is managed, led by Patrice Motsepe, especially in light of the repercussions that the continental body has been experiencing since the last meeting of the Executive Office in Dar es Salaam.

The most prominent of these repercussions revolve around several complex issues, including the state of administrative and managerial confusion, in addition to the controversy related to the position of Secretary-General and the Arbitration Committee.
Also noteworthy are the decisions issued by the Appeals Committee in the case of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, which resulted in awarding the title to Morocco despite Senegal winning it last January, which was a major surprise and whose reactions extended to the global level.
Senegal and Cameroon are working to oust Motsepe.
For its part, the specialized platform winwin, quoting sources in the Executive Office of the African Union, indicated that there is a state of discontent, anger and concern towards Motsepe’s management style, especially after his recent participation in a meeting with CAF sponsors in the presence of the Congolese Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba, whose continued presence in his position is rejected by the majority of the Executive Office members, who consider his presence illegal due to reaching the retirement age according to CAF’s internal regulations.
She added that Motsepe had asked the members of the Executive Office to hold a meeting on March 28 in Cairo to discuss these developments and resolve the outstanding issues since the Dar es Salaam meeting.
Other reports indicated that the Senegalese and Cameroonian football federations, as well as a number of West African federations, are working on fundamental changes within the federation, suggesting the possibility of holding a general assembly of the federation soon with the aim of correcting the course and seeking to withdraw confidence from Patrice Motsepe, the federation president, and the entire executive office.
