In support of academic and cultural cooperation between Ain Shams University and African educational institutions, the Faculty of Arts at the university announced the launch of an academic program to teach Arabic to non-native speakers from the Republic of Ghana, starting from July 14, 2026, until December 2026.
This is under the patronage of Professor Dr. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Dr. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Hanan Salem, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development, and with the coordination of Professor Iman Zaki, Director of the Consulting Center.
Interest in Arabic language teaching programs
Professor Dr. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, affirmed that the Faculty pays great attention to Arabic language education programs for non-native speakers, considering it one of the most important sources of Egyptian soft power. She pointed out that hosting students from the Republic of Ghana reflects the growing confidence in the academic expertise that the Faculty possesses, and confirms its role in extending bridges of civilizational and cultural communication with brothers in the African continent.
For her part, Professor Dr. Hanan Salem, Vice Dean of the College for Community Service and Environmental Development, explained that the program was designed according to an integrated academic vision that takes into account the needs of the students, and combines the development of language skills with getting acquainted with Arab culture in a way that helps students acquire the language in its scientific and cultural context and promotes cultural exchange between peoples.
The program includes a range of courses covering basic language skills, with Mondays dedicated to listening with Dr. Amira Marwan and reading and texts with Dr. Islam El-Sharkawy.
Tuesday's program includes a conversation course with Dr. Ahmed Abdel Qawi and Arabic grammar (syntax and morphology) with Dr. Ibrahim Najib. Thursday's program includes a course on Arabic culture with Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shafei and writing skills with Dr. Muhammad Tariq, ensuring the development of the four language skills along with an understanding of the cultural and civilizational aspects of the Arabic language.

This program embodies the vision of the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University to enhance the presence of the Arabic language at the international level, and to consolidate the university’s role in serving the community and building academic partnerships with African countries.
This contributes to preparing students who possess linguistic competence and cultural knowledge, and reflects the distinguished position that Ain Shams University enjoys as one of the oldest academic institutions in Egypt and the region.
