The Malian army announced today ThursdayApproximately 100 militants were killed and a number of combat vehicles were destroyed during intensive military operations targeting the positions of armed groups in the north of the country.
The General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces stated in a release that the armed forces, in collaboration with their partners, continued to carry out military operations against elements of the “Group to Support Islam and Muslims” and the ”Azawad Liberation Front,” asserting that these groups have suffered significant losses in lives and equipment.
The statement clarified that the operations, carried out on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in the “Anifis” and ”Tibrashat” regions of northern Mali, included the execution of 13 precise airstrikes targeting militants' positions and movements.
The army added that the airstrikes resulted in the destruction of six combat vehicles and a pickup truck, in addition to killing about 100 militants.
The statement indicated that these operations are part of the military strategy implemented by the Malian Armed Forces to dismantle strongholds of armed groups and eliminate their havens in the north of the country.
The General Staff confirmed the continuation of military operations throughout Malian territory, emphasizing the armed forces“ commitment to continuing their missions ”with discipline and rigor" to confront security threats and promote stability in the country.
In another context, financial authorities revealed that they possess what they described as ”evidence” proving that a number of armed individuals involved in carrying out attacks inside the country received military training in Ukraine, a development that adds a new dimension to the file of armed groups active in the Sahel region. Vice-President of the Defense and Security Committee of the Malian National Transitional Council, Fousseyni Traore, stated that security agencies have identified individuals who received training in Ukraine on the use and operation of suicide drones, confirming that the names of these individuals have been added to the watchlists of the Malian authorities.
