Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema announced a package of infrastructure projects in the Kafue region, including the construction of a dual carriageway linking Kafue and the capital Lusaka, the rehabilitation of internal and secondary roads, and the expansion of Kafue County Hospital, in a move aimed at improving services and supporting economic development.

The president’s announcement came during a public meeting he held on Sunday in Kafue, as part of a field tour, where he stressed that the government is aware of the daily challenges faced by citizens and drivers as a result of the increasing traffic congestion on the road linking Kafue and Lusaka, which is one of the most vital axes in the country.

Hishilima explained that the dual carriageway project will contribute to easing traffic congestion, improving transportation, and enhancing connectivity between the two cities, which will positively impact commercial and investment activity and help facilitate the movement of people and goods.

The Zambian president noted that his government places infrastructure development at the top of its priorities, as it is a key pillar for supporting economic growth and improving the level of public services in various regions.

In the same context, Hishilema acknowledged the poor condition of many roads within Kafue city, stressing that the government intends to implement a program to rehabilitate internal and secondary roads, which will contribute to improving ease of movement, enhancing access to residential neighborhoods and agricultural areas, and supporting local economic activities.

The president also revealed a plan to expand the Kafoe County Hospital, with the aim of increasing its capacity and improving the level of health services provided to citizens, in light of the increasing demand for medical care within the region.

He stressed that the government will continue to invest in the transport, health and basic services sectors, in order to achieve balanced development between the different regions and raise the quality of life for citizens.

These projects are part of the Zambian government’s approach to developing infrastructure and promoting local development, through the implementation of projects that respond to the needs of citizens, provide a better environment for investment and improve public services, especially in areas that are experiencing population growth and increasing economic activity, such as Kafwe, which represents a major gateway linking the capital Lusaka with a number of southern and western provinces in Zambia.
