South Sudan and the UAE discuss accelerating the implementation of joint agreements.

Minister discussed Foreign Ministry The Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan, Dr. James Pitia Morgan, and the UAE Minister of State for African Affairs, Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries during a meeting in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.

Discussing cooperation in diplomatic training

The two sides discussed mechanisms for implementing the signed bilateral agreements, as well as exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation in a number of vital areas, including diplomatic training, capacity building, technical cooperation, and the development of trade and investment relations in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries.

Strengthening institutional cooperation

The two sides agreed to strengthen institutional cooperation, intensify joint coordination to support bilateral priorities, and work to accelerate the implementation of existing agreements, in order to raise the level of partnership between the two countries.

During the meeting, both sides affirmed their commitment to further developing the historical relations between the Republic of South Sudan and the United Arab Emirates, and to strengthening cooperation in various fields, in order to support development efforts and achieve the common interests of the two peoples.

Awareness campaigns to reduce the risk of infectious diseases

In another context, ECSS intensified its awareness campaigns to reduce the risks of infectious diseases, particularly monkeypox (Mpox) and Ebola, amid fears of cross-border transmission with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Bishop Ephraim Isaac, the Bishop of the Ezo Diocese, said that church field teams are moving between villages and rural areas using loudspeakers to spread health messages, inform citizens about methods of prevention and raise awareness, especially in communities near border areas.

He explained that the latest campaigns targeted the Nabiabay border market, where traders, residents and visitors were made aware of the dangers of infectious diseases and ways to reduce their spread, in addition to providing religious and social messages that support the community.

Bishop Ephraim Isaac added: “We have a field team that travels between villages to educate citizens about the dangers of monkeypox in South Sudan, and the danger of Ebola in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, so that everyone is aware of ways to prevent and protect their families and communities.”.

The initiative comes as part of the growing role of religious institutions in supporting public health efforts, especially in border areas that witness continuous movement, thus enhancing the community response to reduce the spread of cross-border epidemics.
