President Sisi: We are ready to expand our investments in Tanzania and support its development projects.

President Abdel Fattah met SisiToday, in the city of Dar es Salaam, with President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the Tanzanian President received the President upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace in Dar es Salaam, where an official reception ceremony was held, which began with the playing of the national anthems of both Egypt and Tanzania, the firing of 21 cannon shots, and then a review of the guard of honor. This was followed by the President shaking hands with a number of military leaders, and signing the historical book of distinguished visitors at the Presidential Palace, before taking a commemorative photo of the two presidents on this occasion.

Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson, added that the two presidents held a closed bilateral meeting, followed by an expanded meeting with the delegations of the two countries, during which the President expressed his deep appreciation for the warm reception, and congratulated President Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election for a second term, stressing Egypt’s aspiration to continue strengthening the distinguished bilateral relations with Tanzania in various fields.

For her part, the Tanzanian President welcomed the President’s visit, expressing her appreciation for the active role that Egypt plays at the African and international levels, and praising the existing cooperation between the two countries as a model of the desired integration between African countries. She also affirmed her country’s aspiration to strengthen cooperation with Egypt in various fields.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan praised the Julius Nyerere Dam project, stressing that it embodies a successful model of cooperation for development and prosperity. She also reviewed Tanzania’s efforts to achieve development in accordance with the “Tanzania 2050” vision, expressing her appreciation for the continued Egyptian support for these efforts.

The official spokesperson noted that following the conclusion of the extended talks, the two presidents witnessed the signing of two memoranda of understanding in the fields of transport, electricity and renewable energy, and then held a joint press conference.

In his speech during the press conference, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi affirmed his pride in being in Tanzania, thanking President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the warm welcome and hospitality, and expressing his appreciation for the brotherly relations that unite Egypt and Tanzania, which are based on historical ties built on mutual respect and constructive cooperation in various fields.

The President explained that the ties that bind the two peoples extend across centuries of shared history and cultural and societal interaction, which has contributed to the establishment of a successful strategic partnership between the two countries. He noted that the shared political will has succeeded in recent years in developing cooperative relations in an unprecedented manner, whether at the bilateral level or through political consultation, prior coordination, bringing viewpoints closer, and converging visions on various regional and international issues.

He added that the bilateral talks he held with the Tanzanian President were fruitful and constructive, and reflected the shared will to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries in various fields, in order to make the best use of the available potential to serve the interests of the two peoples.

President Sisi noted that the meeting represented an opportunity to exchange views on ways to bring about a qualitative shift in bilateral cooperation, in a way that achieves mutual benefit and supports joint development efforts, with a focus on pushing economic cooperation to broader horizons, through increasing the volume of trade exchange, encouraging mutual investments, and expanding the participation of the private sector in a number of vital and promising sectors, including construction, roads, maritime transport, ports, logistics zones, electricity, energy, agriculture, land reclamation, irrigation, medicine, and medical supplies, in addition to other areas of interest to both countries.

The President affirmed that he informed President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Egypt’s aspiration to utilize the great success achieved by Egyptian companies in implementing the Julius Nyerere Dam project, which would allow for more development projects in Tanzania for Egyptian national companies, and to benefit from the multiple assets that these companies possess within Tanzanian territory, and the great expertise they have accumulated, which would enhance the ability to work together and achieve more accomplishments, in order to raise bilateral relations to the desired level.

The President explained that, in order to achieve this goal, he directed the intensification of the transfer of Egyptian expertise, the provision of technical support, and the increase of qualification and training programs aimed at building and developing the capabilities of national cadres in Tanzania in various sectors, in order to contribute to unleashing the latent and promising potential in the relations between the two countries.

He added that the talks also addressed opportunities to start a project to reclaim agricultural land in Tanzania, with the aim of achieving food security for both countries and meeting national needs for basic and strategic crops, while working to expand the project in successive stages, until reaching the export stage.

President Sisi indicated that he reiterated Egypt’s readiness to participate in the project to expand and develop the port of Dar El Salam, stressing the importance of developing the port within a broader vision for regional logistics hubs and linking it to neighboring countries. The talks also addressed a proposal to create a shipping line for maritime linking the ports of Safaga and Dar El Salam, in addition to establishing a multimodal corridor linking Cairo and Dar El Salam, through the implementation of a number of joint development projects.

Regarding regional issues, the President expressed his appreciation for the positive and balanced positions adopted by the United Republic of Tanzania on many regional issues of interest to both countries, stressing his aspiration to strengthen the positive and constructive Tanzanian role, based on encouraging understanding and a spirit of cooperation among the brothers of the Nile River partners in the Nile Basin region.

He added that the talks also addressed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, most notably developments in the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, and the Red Sea, as well as ways to enhance collective African action, with both sides agreeing to continue coordination and consultation on various topics of common interest.

President Sisi concluded his speech by expressing his pleasure at meeting the Tanzanian President, stressing his aspiration for more close cooperation between the two countries in a way that achieves the common interest of the two peoples and the African continent, and wishing Tanzania and its people continued goodness, stability and progress. He also renewed his thanks to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the warm welcome and generous hospitality.

The official spokesman explained that, following the conclusion of the talks, the two presidents participated in an official luncheon hosted by the Tanzanian President in honor of the President, where both sides, in their speeches, affirmed their pride in the strong cultural relations that unite the two countries, and their keenness to implement what was agreed upon during the talks in various fields, in a way that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations and raising them to the level of a strategic partnership.
