Egypt confirms its readiness to host the 2027 African Games

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, received Amma Amoh, Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development of the African Union, on Monday, June 29, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of health, humanitarian affairs and social development.

The Foreign Minister stressed the importance that Egypt attaches to the health sector as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development in Africa, stressing Egypt’s full solidarity with African countries facing the Ebola outbreak, reviewing the medical and pharmaceutical assistance that Egypt has provided to the affected countries, in support of efforts to combat the virus and contain its repercussions, stressing Egypt’s support for the health institutions of the African Union, enabling them to play their role in responding to health emergencies, and enhancing the continent’s readiness to face epidemics and cross-border health challenges.

The Foreign Minister also stressed Egypt’s readiness to transfer its leading experiences and expertise in the health and pharmaceutical fields, and to cooperate with the Commission in capacity-building programs, as well as making available Egyptian expertise and the advanced infrastructure that Egypt possesses in the fields of the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries, in addition to the successful health initiatives launched by His Excellency the President of the Republic in the fields of health care and early prevention, most notably the “100 Million Healthy Lives” initiative, which contributes to enhancing health security at the continental level.

In a related context, Minister Abdel-Aty stressed the keenness to provide all the necessary capabilities to ensure a successful and honorable organization of the 14th African Games, scheduled to be hosted by Egypt in 2027, in a way that reflects the importance that Egypt attaches to joint African action, and highlights the continent’s wealth of youthful energies and promising potential. He emphasized Egypt’s full support for all efforts aimed at making this important continental event a success, and its readiness to coordinate closely with the African Union Commission to ensure that the continental event is presented in a manner befitting the African continent and its peoples, and that it strengthens the values of solidarity and communication among the continent’s youth.
