Urban development and trade cooperation: Details of the meeting between the Minister of Investment and the Tanzanian Deputy Minister of Industry

Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, received Denis Londo, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the United Republic of Tanzania.

This was in the presence of Ambassador Richard Mulayaba Makanzo, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Egypt, Alaa El-Baily, Chairman of the Egyptian General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, Dr. Abdel Aziz El-Sherif, Head of the Trade Representation Authority, and Dr. Amani El-Wassal, Head of the Trade Agreements Sector.

This was with the aim of exploring ways to enhance economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries, and to review opportunities for cooperation in intra-regional trade, logistics, livestock, exhibitions, trade missions and the development of new cities.

Increased trade exchange between Egypt and Tanzania

The meeting reviewed ways to increase trade exchange and enhance access for Egyptian products to Tanzania and East African markets, in addition to discussing the updating of commodity lists and customs classification codes (HS Codes) in order to add new products and support the movement of mutual trade in response to proposals from the business community.

The two sides also discussed organizing reciprocal trade and investment missions and holding specialized exhibitions to enable the business community to explore opportunities and build new partnerships, in addition to exploring cooperation in the livestock sector, meat production and processing, and the accreditation of slaughterhouses and meeting the requirements of halal certificates in a way that supports the flow of trade.

Dr. Farid affirmed that Tanzania represents an important partner for Egypt in East Africa, noting the work being done to update the commodity lists and expand the exchanged goods to enhance trade and open new areas of cooperation.

He pointed to the importance of organizing an Egyptian trade and investment mission to Tanzania that includes an exhibition of Egyptian products, which would enhance direct communication between the business community.

He also stressed the importance of cooperation in livestock and expanding investment partnerships in the stages of production, manufacturing and distribution, while completing the technical requirements for the accreditation of slaughterhouses and halal certificates in accordance with the approved standards.

The minister explained the importance of having logistics centers in Dar es Salaam to support the distribution of Egyptian products within Tanzania and neighboring markets, and to enhance the efficiency of supply chains and increase the competitiveness of Egyptian exports.

For his part, the Tanzanian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade expressed his country’s appreciation for relations with Egypt, stressing the keenness to expand economic and investment cooperation and increase the participation of Egyptian companies, with readiness to provide the necessary facilities to support joint projects in various sectors.
